Project preparation

It is responsible for identifying AFI projects and providing technical assistance for their design and successful implementation in all aspects.

It consists of:

  • Identification and prioritization of projects according to expected results.
  • Pre-feasibility studies.
  • Identification of impact investors and capital providers.
  • Project portfolio management.

Project feasibility

  • Financial modeling.
  • Technical feasibility.
  • Social evaluations.
  • Environmental studies.
  • Capital structuring.
  • Definition and reinforcement of bird conservation mechanisms.

Project structuring

  • Engineering design.
  • Environmental Impact Studies.
  • Detailed financial modeling and optimal capital structuring.
  • Legal structuring.
  • Development of the financing proposal.

Achievements to date

Construction of a portfolio of more than 10 potential projects in the 5 prioritized countries of the American hemisphere: Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile.

Selection of four pilot sites:

CANADA

Knowledge sharing pilot in Canada: Partner Bird Canada led to the establishment of the first knowledge sharing pilot on Iona Island, British Columbia. The focus is on the modern wastewater treatment plant at the Iona Fraser River Wastewater Treatment Plant.

ECUADOR

Mitigation of risks to birds in the construction of power transmission and distribution lines serving the coastal shrimp aquaculture industry.

Forest landscape restoration in the Ecuadorian Choco-Andes.

CHILE

Restoration of the Rocuant Andalién coastal wetland to reduce flood risk and increase resilience.

PANAMA

Incorporation of bird-friendly architecture and design elements at CAF headquarters in Panama City.
